Climbing Pequeño Alpamayo

Pequeño Alpamayo 5425m (3 day).

This peak is impressive, beautiful, and justifiably popular. From base camp, you can see only the top part of the summit, but the view of the mountain from Tarija is awesome. The pyramid of snow and rock looks much harder to climb than it is.

DAY 1: Early departure from La Paz to the rinconada ranch where the vehicle drops us off. Then, after rounding up a team of llamas or mules for our gear, we have a 2 hour trek to the Chiar Khota Lagoon (4,630m), where we will set up our base camp.

DAY 2: Early departure (5.00am). Our first route is to climb the Pico Tarija (5,300m) beyond which we will continue down then back up to PEQUEÑO ALPAMAYO (5,425m). Our return is by the same route to Base Camp.

DAY 3: In the morning some preparations before we begin the return to the rinconada where we expected the car for return.
